Its 13-episode first season premiered June 23, 2016, on USA Network.[3] The series is an adaptation of the successful telenovela La Reina del Sur on sister network Telemundo and the book of the same name by Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte.[4] On September 6, 2016, USA Network renewed the series for a second season.
